Job Description

The Developer/IT team lead will work under the supervision of the CEO and will be accountable for:

• Developing and maintaining key modules

• Assistance with and input into the development of the Company’s strategic business and information technology plans

• Development of tactical information technology plans from the Company’s

• Strategic business and information technology plans to ensure business continuity and the achievement of business targets within budget allocated from the Company’s business plans

• Development of human skills and capacity within the information technology team in line with business requirements and within budgets allocated in the Company’s business plans

• Development and maintenance of website assets, SQL Server capabilities, service management and billing systems, client provisioning systems, communications systems and networks, mobile applications

• Full responsibility and accountability for availability and uptime of the IT networks and systems as well as in-office system and networks

• Primary responsibly for the technical interface with the South African Weather Service

• Any other IT-related activities that reasonably from part of the duties of a person in your position.

• The incumbent must be experienced with web, SQL, OOP programming, and networking concepts

Job Description

Technical Tasks

• Designs, develops and modifies modules based on functional and system requirements

• Works closely with the IT team and Marketing team for understanding the functional and system requirements and deliver on specifications

• Works closely with the IT team to ensure architectural integrity and product quality

• Participate in testing process through unit testing and bug fixes

• Assist with day-to-day operation tasks as required by circumstances

Other Tasks

• Participate in weekly review meetings, and other meetings as required from time to time

• Participate in project planning and keep project planning tool updated

• Work closely with the IT team and Marketing team to ensure quality and punctual software development within his/her responsibilities, as well as his/her team



• University degree in Computer Science or equivalent

• At least 5 years of relevant work experience

• Good web development skills and experience (HTML,CSS, JavaScript)

• Good OOP development skills and experience (PHP, Java)

• Good understanding of relational databases and experience (MSSQL)

• Good understanding of MVC approach and conceptual design

• Experience using Linux systems (bash scripts, cron)

Nice to have

• Experience in using software version control (Git)

• Experience with Eclipse

• Experience working with public APIs (Google Maps, Google Charts APIs)

• Self-motivated, team player, action and results oriented

• Well organized, good communication and reporting skills

• Unfailing honesty and integrity

• Ability to successfully work under pressure to meet tight project deadlines
