Job Description

A leading Engineering Consulting Firm is looking for an Electrical Technologist, to be based in Pretoria.

Minimum requirements:

• BTech Degree in Electrical Engineering

• Professional registration with ECSA (PrTech)

• 5-8 years’ experience in a consulting environment

Main responsibilities:

• Undertakes technical and feasibility studies and site investigations

• Advises clients as to regulatory and statutory requirements, including environmental management

• Design of processes or systems or refinement of the preliminary process design, where such process design is a prerequisite for the design of the project (does not apply to civil and structural services pertaining to building projects)

• Consults on all technical matters with the client, authorities, interested parties and modifies the preliminary design of the project arising of such consultations

• Submits estimates of capital and life cycle costs, financial implications and programmes for the implementation of the project (does not apply to civil and structural services pertaining to building projects)

• Prepares detail designs and tender/and or working drawings

• Prepares specifications and bills of quantities

• Advises the client as to the preparation of contract documents, or prepares contract documents in consultation with the client

• Overall contract administration and coordination, as well as construction monitoring and attends site meetings

• Issues instructions to contractors on behalf of the client

• Prepares and submits invoices

• Prepares and issues variation orders on behalf of and after consultation with the client

• Compiles and submits project reports

• Advises the client with regard to the resolution of disputes or differences that may arise between the client and the contractor (except for mediation, arbitration and litigation)

• Inspects materials and equipment for compliance with the original design and tender and ensures that national and international standards are adhered to

• Ensures that the Company QMS procedures are adhered to

• Ensures that projects runs smoothly and that it is completed on time and within budget

• Adheres to all legislative requirements around issues such as building permits, environmental regulations and health and safety

• Agrees final quantities with contractors, compiles final accounts and issues final payment certificates

• Prepares, and on completion of the projects, provides the client with record drawings, makes arrangements for the contractor to supply detailed operating and maintenance manuals as part of the contractors obligations to the client

• Evaluates results of the contractor’s commissioning procedures and tests/witness final performance tests on site
