Job Description

Our client is looking for a Logistics and Operations Manager to join their team

The detailed Job Description is as below:

Export Logistics Management:

Efficiently manage a small team of Logistics Coordinators.

Develop and ensure that policies, rules and regulations and procedures are followed.

Analyze all aspects of corporate logistics to determine the most cost-effective or efficient means of transporting products or supplies.

Monitor export and cross trade processes to ensure compliance with regulatory or legal requirements.

Determine pricing strategy for logistics in sub-Saharan countries.

Analyze the financial impact of proposed logistics changes, such as routing, shipping modes, product volumes or mixes, or carriers.

Recommend optimal transportation modes, routing, equipment, or frequency.

Prepare monthly reports and statistics on Logistics Activities.

Export Logistics Coordination:

Negotiate rates with Freight Forwarders and Shipping Lines.

Prepare shipping quotations for inclusion in Customer Quotes prepared by Traders.

Ensure the smooth planning and coordination of shipments to various destinations.

Ensure the timely booking of shipments, completion of shipping documents, inspection of goods, relevant Certificates, insurance of goods, delivery of documentation, etc.

Liaise with and supply information to the different company departments.

Monitor and report on status of all shipments.

Ensure that customers are kept updated on the status of the shipments.

Responsible for problem solving on all shipments and claims.

Operations Management:

Collaborate with other departments (Industrial Procurement, Food & Catering Supplies, Engineering Projects, and Interior Design Projects) to integrate logistics with business processes, such as quotation systems, ordering systems, accounting, or shipping.

Evaluate standard operating procedures, business rules and work processes to enhance communication, transfer information between departments, and produce results.

Liaise with the Warehouse Coordinator to plan delivery, packing and loading schedules.

Troubleshoot and provide solutions for issues of a moderate to complex scope.


A minimum of 5 years’ international logistics experience in Cross Trade, Air Freight, Sea Freight, Road Freight, Project Freight, and courier express shipments. Shipping experience to SADC countries is preferable.

A minimum of 2 years’ experience at management level, overseeing a team of Logistics Coordinators and ensuring inter-departmental cooperation.

Preferably, a minimum of 2 years’ experience at management level, overseeing the operations of a procurement company. Alternatively, a minimum of 2 years’ experience having worked in a procurement role.

Above average to strong communication skills in English (verbal and written). French or Portuguese would be an added advantage.

Able to prioritize and coordinate multiple critical projects simultaneously.

Strong problem solving skills.

Excellent data analysis skills using desktop computer tools and software.

Excellent interpersonal skills and a team player.

Works effectively with client, carrier and company personnel within all organizational levels.

Excellent customer service skills.
