Job Description

A leading firm of consulting engineers is looking to appoint a Project Engineer/Technologist to their Land Development Division in Durban.

Minimum Requirements:

Candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Land and Property Development;

Candidate must be appropriately registered with the statutory body recognised under the built environments act, preferably ECSA as a Pr Eng. or Pr Tech. an additional PMP or Pr CPM registration will have a definite advantage;

Proficiency in English with exceptional communication and report writing skills;

Minimum of 10 – 15 years post graduate experience in the planning, design, implementation and project management of houses and infrastructure for subsidised to middle income township development projects;

A Zulu speaking candidate that meets all the basic requirements for this position will have a definite advantage.

The successful candidate will have knowledge and experience in:

Facilitation of the statutory PDA township development planning and approval processes;

Good knowledge of the housing code, DoHS subsidy project application processes, NHBRC project enrolment requirements and GCC, NEC and JBCC forms of contract;

Mentoring, coaching, running and managing of a production team within a design office during the initiation, planning and design phases of a typical township development project (Project scope generally includes internal streets, storm water, water and sanitation services);

Project Procurement process i.e. compiling tender documentation and evaluation reports;

Oversee the management of various contractors and sub-consultants during the implementation phase;

Project Proposals, Feasibility Studies, Business Plans, Technical and Detail Design Reports.

The ideal candidate:

The incumbent must have very good people skills with a proven ability to liaise directly with Clients, Parastatals, Local Municipalities and Government departments. Further, he/she will be required to take full responsibility for the management of a number of rural and integrated housing development projects through their entire project lifecycle; from drafting of a fee or project plan/proposals to securing an Professional services appointment, this includes all the initiation, planning, design, implementation and close out project stages where the infrastructure and housing products are successful handover to the relevant Services Authorities and DoHS approved beneficiaries respectively.
