A renewable energy specialist firm is looking to employ the expertise of a Solar PV Mechanical & Construction Manager.
Must have a minimum of 5 years experience in construction industry.
Bachelor’s degree in related field
Strong knowledge of building South African code and inspection processes.
Must be able to read and interpret plans accurately.
Strong organizational skills to manage the activities required in the installation of large commercial mechanical systems.
Must be computer proficient. Good working knowledge of MS Office 2007 programs, specifically Word, Excel and Project.
Able to accurately complete and provide reporting documents as needed.
Frequent regional travel (up to 90%) to attend assigned construction sites.
Experience with civil, light structural and light electrical installation
Must demonstrate strong engineering, design, and communication skills, and an ability to work in a dynamic team environment to think outside the box and solve traditional problems in new ways
Must have the ability to pick up concepts quickly and apply them in new situations
Must be able to balance multiple projects while working under tight deadlines
Must be comfortable working in a highly collaborative, non-hierarchal environment that requires ownership of results
internal and external customers
Oversee all on site operations, mechanical installations and contractor(s) for completed photovoltaic (PV) systems. You will be part of the project design team responsible for planning and implementing rooftop and ground mounted utility-scale PV power plants capable of being installed, operated, and maintained at breakthrough cost levels, across South Africa and
the SADC Region.
Specific responsibilities include:
Generate blueprints, technical drawing, schematics and computer-generated/AutoCAD reports
Oversee the installation of all mechanical components according to manufacture specifications. And provide daily reports identifying progress and plans for maintaining schedule and quality.
Monitor all aspects of production, including contractors/sub-
contractors selection of construction methods, installation and
verification of quality measures
Organize RFPs and order contracting services including:
- Land surveyors, topographer services, GPS positioning
- Steel frame manufactures; aluminum frame manufacturers, steel mounting and installation contractors; steel and
aluminum clamps, screws, bolts and fasteners;
- Medium and Low tension electrical equipment and installation contractors;
- Excavation machines, forklifts, front loaders;
- Freight and logistic services from port to site;
- General civil services including roads, water,
- Ordinary sight maintenance including fire control, security PV equipment cleaning, etc.
Research and analyze customer design proposals, specifications, manuals and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost and installation requirements of designs or applications.
Interface with German based Solea engineers and other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions and provide technical information.
Investigate equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation and make recommendations to contractors.
Develop and test alternate designs and processing methods to assess feasibility, operating condition effects, possible new applications and necessity of modification.
