Job Description

A leading firm of international consulting engineers is looking to appoint a Senior Civil Engineer in their Cape Town office.

Minimum Requirements:

A B Eng Civil degree

Registered as a Professional Engineer at ECSA

Relevant post degree qualifications

Business development skills to obtain new business

Registration as a professional Project & Construction Manager will be advantages

Strong technical background with a minimum of 15 years' Civil Engineering experience who is registered as a Professional Engineer

A proven track record in Design, Documentation and Construction Management of Civil Engineering projects as well as multi-disciplinary projects.

Sound understanding of applicable local & international engineering standards and codes of practice

Excellent leadership and communication skills

Demonstrable commitment to HSE management in a project environment

Working knowledge of industry standard business support systems i.e. design and drawing packages, ISO9001 quality management systems

A high level of customer focus to ensure customer satisfaction

Quality Assurance knowledge, awareness and responsibility

Safety awareness and responsibility

Willingness to travel

Being a team player

Specific Accountabilities:

The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following tasks:

Manage and perform Civil Engineering designs to ensure project goals are achieved

Contract and Project Administration of Civil, as well as Mechanical / Electrical contracts

To plan, co-ordinate and manage the Design, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning of assigned projects, including taking a leadership role in the preparation of proposals

To ensure clear agreement of client objectives and that these are met or exceeded

To achieve or better the budgeted gross margin

To provide strong HSE leadership

The candidate shall have experience in Project Design, Construction Management and generation of civil engineering specifications for various sizes of projects.

The candidate, under the direct supervision of a Project Director or line manager, may be responsible for feasibility studies, conceptual design, detail design, implementation and commissioning of projects. The candidate will be required to utilise management skills to demonstrate excellence in the following key areas:

Customer relations

Technical Accuracy

Office / Project Administration

Project and Programme Management

Preparation of Estimates & Proposals

Project Coordination

Project Financial Control

Quality Management

Project Change Control

Development and implementation of initiatives to improve cost effectiveness and efficiency of the project execution

Effective management and control of risks through engineering design, construction, installation, and commissioning

Managing of a multi-disciplinary team

Maintaining design integrity and quality within the project team(s)

Business Development

To win new business from clients and potential clients

Establish and maintain relationship with key clients.

Prepare and/or assist with preparation of proposals.
