Job Description

A leading international engineering company is looking for Principal/Senior Drilling Engineers.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

• BS degree in Engineering

• 8+ years’ experience


• Member of Society of Petroleum Engineers and of IADC

• Attended industry courses in well engineering, well operations management, and project management

• Good technical knowledge of well planning and well operations

• Initiative to proffer solutions to technical problems

• Sound knowledge of IADC/API guidelines for well operations

• Excellent organisational skills are essential

• Ability to supervise subordinates, make presentations and facilitate meetings

• IWCF well control certification

• Offshore Survival certificate

• Good interpersonal and communications skills are essential

• Willing to travel


• Well and completion planning in accordance with the Well Delivery Process

• Provide planning schedules for all drilling programs

• Track schedules and monitor implementation to schedule

• Provide initial well timelines for planning purposes, drilling time curves, and initial cost estimates. Review with drilling superintendent and drilling manager

• Provide proper technical and commercial input to tender documents for services and products

• Evaluate tenders both technically and commercially with appropriate recommendations

• Provide detailed Scope of Work for drilling services

• Carry out contracts management

• Acquire planning data from geology, reservoir engineering or geophysics as necessary

• Carry out offset well data analysis

• Design drilling/completion and work-over programs

• Recommend means of avoiding drilling problems such as how to ensure well bore stability, tackling lost circulation and stuck pipe

• Work with various service vendors to ensure plans are achievable

• Review with engineer on DIMS the provision of End of Well reports

• Provide engineering support/advise to the rig on program implementation

• Generate AFE for programs

• Monitor implementation of programs

• Carry out other functions as may be assigned

• Knowledge and understanding of relevant regulations applicable to drilling work

Accountable for:

• Provision of well schedules, job schedules, updates and monitoring of performance

• Timely submission of tender proposals for services or products to comply with Tender Board process and meet deadlines

• Ensuring proper tender evaluations using approved templates are done and meet the technical and commercial objectives of the program

• Provision of detailed contract documents covering scope of work (SOW), technical specifications, commercial requirements, and commercial terms & conditions for use in the tender process and for inclusion in completed contracts

• Monitoring contract performance, ensuring the technical and commercial conditions are fully met

• Ensuring proper research of offset data for wells planned is conducted

• Ensuring all well plans are technically sound, feasible and cost effective, and giving full consideration to all HSE aspects

• Ensuring well equipment proposed for drilling, completing or work-over of planned wells is available, fit for purpose, and meet the QA/QC standards required for the application

• Ensuring applications for drilling required from NAPIMS/DPR are timely made

• Ensuring well AFE’s raised are timely and accurate

• Ensuring timely provision of well programs at least one month before implementation

• Ensure implementation of well programs is incompliance with plans. All KPI’s and NPT targets are achieved

• Ensuring all required reports on well program implementation are accurate, received daily and properly distributed

• Ensuring well performance data such as planned vs. actual drilling time and cost curves, cost/ft., etc. are tracked daily

• Ensuring regulations are known and adhered to both in programs and operations

Key Performance Indicators/ Performance Goals

• Well time and cost estimates based on probability models

• Compliance with Well Delivery Process

• Detailed drilling, work over and completion programs signed and issued at least one month to commencement of programs

• Continuous monitor of well plans by means of performance sheets and KPI’s to ensure plans are achieved

• DWOP/CWOP Sessions on all programs

• Propose process change, tool or equipment utilisation

• Well drilling/completion performance below AFE/Budget

Financial Dimensions

• Well Budgets to the tune of $80 - $100 million per year
