Job Description

International firm of Consulting Engineers is looking for a senior engineering manager to join their operations in their Johannesburg offices.

Minimum Requirements:

• Relavant tertiary qualification

• Professional registration preferred

• GCC Mining would be an advantage

• 8 years engineering desing management experience within the mining environment.

• Previous site experience desirable

Key Purpose of Job:

To coordinate the various engineering disciplines involved in the design process and to ensure deliverables are met from inception to close out.

May be required to coordinate the design activities on a veriety of mining design projects from opencast to underground mines and may range from gold, platinum, coal or basementals.

Key Responsibilities:

Design Management

Responsible for Managing and co-ordinating multi-disciplinary engineering activities to ensure projects are executed in a safe, efficient, cost effective and timely manner.

Ensure designs conform to the Client’s approved Basis of Design and all applicable regulatory and code requirements.

Ensuring overall technical integrity and safe design process are applied.

Sets clear objectives to the design team, including achieving productivity and budget targets.

Ensures design team aware of, and complies with, Client’s Basis of Design and application of regulations and codes.

Ensuring engineering design team members meet their design responsibilities.

Manages and coordinates inter-discipline interfaces effectively.

Monitoring of the overall progress of engineering work.

Ensuring team members are suitably qualified to perform their duties.

Ensuring quality and consistency across the design.

Coordination of technical and engineering quality reviews.

Team Management

Focuses team on achievement of milestones and other key project objectives.

Listens to the team, discusses the issues, resolves problems and directs activities to remove roadblocks and achieve objectives.

Identification of need for specialist input.

Client Relationships

Act as a technical co-ordination interface with Client to ensure that expectations are satisfied

Maintains and builds healthy Client relationships.

Pro-actively resolves performance, scope and schedule issues with the Client as they arise.

Identifies, documents, communicates and meets the Client’s requirements

Scope Management

Compliance with procedures and management processes.

Compliance with requirements of the contract.

Effective change control process application.

Co-ordination of technical query process.

Management of the engineering change process.

Communications Management

Regularly provides clear reports to Project Management.

Effective communication with the design team and third parties.

Accurate, timely and effective reporting to the Project Manager.

Cost Control

Monitors cost aspects of the project within direct control and forecasts final costs, identifies trends and takes action to avoid cost overruns.

Risk Management

Monitors the closure of all identified risks and opportunities.
