Job Description
An Engineering Company is looking for 2 Senior Mechanical Engineers
10 years plus Bulk Materials Handling experience in relevant heavy industries
Design, specifying, commissioning and operating as appropriate:
o Large drive systems, overland conveyors and conveyor design software
o Large mobile BMH machines, including Stackers, Reclaimers and Shiploaders
o Crushing and Screening equipment
o Port Facilities and Logistics
• Experience in all stages of engineering - from concept studies to detailed design, installation and commissioning
• Presentation skills
• Analytical and design skills
• Understanding and appreciation of safety and quality aspects of design
Essential Requirements:
• Materials handling experience in relevant heavy industries, particularly mining and metals extraction
• Conveyor software experience - rigid body analysis
• Eligibility for ECSA membership
• Engineering degree from a recognized tertiary institution
• Implementing detail design projects, carrying out engineering calculations for bulk materials handling plant and review of detail designs and engineering calculations
• Willing to travel for short term assignments/site visits - overseas and within South Africa
• Share responsibility for development of BMH expertise within The Company
• Materials handling experience - both in design office and on site is desirable. Experience with the design and/or operation of a port import/export facility is also desirable.
Job Specification
Main Functions of the Role
• Participate in BMH Design teams for local and overseas based projects throughout all phases of development - from concept to detail
• Implement detail design projects including calculations for conveyors, belt feeders, bins and hoppers and other bulk materials handling equipment
• Participate in site based project activities - from initial site visits to installation and commissioning
• Responsibility for safe design, quality, time and costs on assigned tasks - using established company systems and procedures
• Active involvement in The Company's BMH global community of practice and technical forums
• Promote business improvement through tools and systems
• Participate in the evaluation of new BMH technology and equipment
• Maintain high level of knowledge of professional and technical BMH developments
• Undertake short term assignments in other offices
