Job Description

To supervise, control and co-ordinate the operations of a production and packaging shifts in order to produce product to the correct quality, to optimize productivity and yield, to utilize the equipment in a safe and effective manner.


Setting up of production to comply with the final product specifications;

Liaise with the agriculture department to supply the correct class of raw material for the relevant product that should be produced,

Liaise with the Quality Dept concerning corrective actions in case of quality problems in both areas:Processing and Packing.

Educate and train subordinates to increase quality awareness.

Ensure that all relevant and trained staff complies with the usage of specifications.

Reporting to Quality Department on any product deviations.


Oversee that efficiency standards are maintained and subsequently planned production volumes are produced.

Ensure all equipment is used in the correct manner to minimize the possibility of damage, wear and losses to company.

Anticipate and identify technical related problems. Provide assistance to correct problems that pose a threat to the quality of the product.

Get production to run at budgeted line rates.

Perform a shift hand-over at the beginning and at the end of the shift.

Performing a Start-up shift when needed to eliminate production downtimes.

Control the day-to-day running of the line on the production and quality side.

Yield and Waste Streams:

Control the process parameters in order to ensure the yield ratio between raw material and finished product.

Investigate any excessive waste generated in the manufacturing process.

Ensure all Operation Work Procedures are adhered to for optimal yield and process recoveries.

Control the consumption of steam and water, as well as the effluent during the process period.

Control the usage and wastage of packing material used.

Personnel / Subordinates:

Maintain a healthy relationship between workers and line management.

Develop Job Descriptions for sub ordinates. Take action on the improvement on any individual.

Scheduling of leave, attending to company related issues, advances and personal loans.

Ensure the effectiveness of personal and the optimum labour utilization in the production and packaging process.

Check attendance registers daily for corrective time keeping and on weekly basis for the payroll.

When a person transgresses company policies and rules, disciplinary actions should be taken according to company’s disciplinary procedure.

Ensure that when personnel are scheduled for training that he/she attend it.

Safety and Hygiene:

Ensure that all equipment is used in a safe and correct manner.

Control the issue of protective clothing and the correct usage thereof.

Ensure the training of employees in relation to all safety issues.

Anticipate and identify safety related problems and give assistance in taking corrective action with these problems

Assist with monthly NOSA safety inspections.

Report any hygiene problems to the quality department.


Communicate with technical department on any maintenance issue; provide job cards for on key system.

Communicate with quality department on any quality related problems.

Communication with shift operators is essential for good performance.

Keep shop floor employees informed of changes in procedures and policies.


Ensure all production information is recorded on a hourly basis.

Leave forms and registers are filled in.

Clock cards are signed on a weekly basis.

Related corrective actions are reported through to the relative department and put in writting


Overall responsibility on weekends when we are working.

Responsible for all departments during night shifts and/or weekends.
