Estimator – SMP

Job Description

A medium sized construction company with offices in Johannesburg are looking for an Estimator – SMP.

Minimum requirements:

• Minimum of 5-7 years technical experience and proven ability to develop professional tenders in Structural, Mechanical and Piping Projects.

• Completed diploma / degree in Engineering / Management or Quantity Surveying.

• Must have good construction and engineering contractual knowledge.

• Must be computer literate, specifically with MS Office Suite and CCS (Candy).

Your responsibilities will include:

• Prepare Structural, Mechanical and Piping estimates as directed by the Regional EPC Proposals and Estimating Manager, Proposal Engineer or his designate.

• Careful study of the tender documents, specifications, and drawings.

• Check the overall accuracy of the materials take-off / bills of quantities and specifications issued by the engineering department.

• Prepare material take-off for the M&P scope for proposals when there is no support available from engineering and when the situation demands.

• Preparation of commercial adjudication of materials / equipment / subcontract quotations.

• Preparation of complete cost estimate in accordance with company work instructions by using norms and procedures.

• Co-operate in the introduction of new techniques in estimating.

• Carry out site visits as and when required.

• Work closely as part of a team with both colleagues within the department and the office team.

• Ensure that detailed spreadsheets are completed and that an accurate bid analysis is carried out on all quotations received. Ensure all the files are maintained as per company QA procedures and full traceability maintained.
