Job Description

A large consulting company with offices internationally and across South Africa is looking for a Senior Rock Engineer to join their growing team in Johannesburg.

Minimum requirements:

• Must have a degree in either Rock Mechanics, Engineering, Mining Engineering, Engineering Geology or Geotechnical Engineering

• MSc will be advantageous.

• Must be registered as Professional Engineer

• Extensive mining experience essential

• Minimum of 15+ years’ experience either as a consultant or working for a mining company in the field of rock engineering

• Open pit mine and/or underground investigation and/or design experience a must.

• Understanding of African clients in the mining industry

• Experience in developing rock mechanics models.

• MS Word, MS Excel (Advanced), MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook, MS Projects.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Working predominately on projects concerned with rock mechanics, including support and mine design.

• Open pit mine investigation and design

• Collation and analysis of geotechnical data

• Geotechnical report writing

• Provide technical expertise on mining projects concerned with soft and hard rock engineering, such as strata control and my design.

• Manage consultancy project within open pit and underground rock engineering.

• Provide technical and project management expertise in the following areas: research, instrumentation, stress measurement, monitoring, numerical modelling, risk management, underground safety audits, design methods, training, and technology transfer

• Developing new business and building upon existing and prospective client relations within Business Unit.

• Developing techniques and methods for solving rock engineering problems within the mines, often conducting site visits to resolve these issues.

• Ensuring compliance with HSSE procedures and protocols

• Management of drilling contractors

• On-site supervisory role for geotechnical investigation projects for open pit mines

• Continued development of key skills in Project Management

• Deliver quality, on time, and within budget.
